Sam Bell works under a contract on the surface of the moon. He serves two Harvesters mining helium -3 - raw materials of the future, the energy happiness of mankind. It is one on this dull planet, where the whole color scheme is shades of gray. The term of his contract is three years. During this time, a daughter was born and grew up on earth. The wife is waiting and proud. However, is everything really so? Wandering around the white labyrinths of the lunar station, Sam begins to suspect that his own robot conceals the key part of the truth from him, that his contract will not end so simply, and that, in the end, he is not the only Sam Bell in this world.
