The film takes place in the 1920s. The protagonist is an ambitious young man eager to make a career. He leaves for a big city and gets a job as a seller in the department store. But his beloved, who is waiting for him to succeed in order to move to live with him, our hero writes letters in which he hides the fact of the lack of promotion through the career ladder. Suddenly, the girl comes to the city and comes to the department store, where her groom works. At the same time, the hero finally falls out a chance to prove himself.
