In 1938, 74-year-old Felix Brizil decided to organize his own funeral-with the intention, while still alive, to take part in them and enjoy the ceremony as far as possible. About whether the extravagant old man had other reasons to fear for his health, except for age, is not reported. But it is known that since the funeral he lived another five years and died in 1943 at the age of 79. The very first wires of Brizil became, probably, one of the most high -profile events in the history of Roan district, Tennessee. The press learned about the intentions of the “deceased”, after which, on June 26, the funeral itself, according to various estimates from eight to twelve thousand people, and Life magazine even printed a photo report about the event.
