The film tells the true story of John Reed, a radical American journalist during the First World War. He meets with a married woman Louise Briant, who throws her husband for him. After political disagreements in the United States, they leave for Russia, while the October Revolution of 1917 is there. They are inspired by the determination of the Communists and return to the States, hoping to arrange the same revolution.
