The film takes place in 1847, during the war of America with Mexico. Captain John Boyd is honored and awarded with various medals, but he is not happy with these circumstances. The reason for his celebration was the capture of the enemy’s bet alone, but only he alone knows all the circumstances of such a bold act - he simply chilled, threw his weapons and pretended to be dead. So he lay for a long time among the dead comrades, and subsequently killed all enemies in a state of affect. However, John did not receive promotion, instead he was sent to a lonely fort in the California mountains. After some time, a ragged and hungry man named Kalhun comes to the fort. From his story it becomes clear that he was a member of the caravan, who was conducting the conductor. The conductor got lost and people, in connection with the winter, settled in a cave. However, there was little food supplies at the moment when they ended people began to eat each other. Kalhun managed to run.
