A story amazing in strength and veracity about the complexity of human relations, and about the cruelty of professional sports, squeezing a person to the limit and then casting him as an unnecessary and boring toy. Former Shakhtar Frank Machin decides to engage in professional rugby because he is healthy, strong, and because it is a much better activity than chopping coal underground. Having quickly made the first successful steps, he begins to feel the taste of fame, enthusiastic fans faint around him, his money falls out of all pockets, but ... - he manages to fall in love with a cold and indifferent widow, his housewife, and completely loses control of himself. He is rude and assertive, he was used to turning ahead in life just like in rugby. And the tragedy is no longer around the corner.
