Duanel leaves the army at the age of 20. Unable to force Christine to love him, he continues to search for an ideal woman. It is settled to work in a detective agency, where it is overwhelmed by any business that he is entrusted with investigating. Finally, he gets the opportunity to demonstrate his `technical suitability` by correctly wrapping the shoe box in the store. Duanel must find out why the store owner, Monsieur Tabard, feels that someone hates him, and whether there is a conspiracy against him. Once, having lingered at work later than usual, Duanel meets Fabin, Tabard`s wife, and enters into a love affair with her.
