Caroline`s husband is divorced with her and marry a rich woman. Having taken the eldest son, he leaves and is no longer interested in the problems of the former family. The unemployed Caroline takes the youngest son Toby and goes on a aimless trip to America. They stop in several cities where Caroline tries to arrange their lives. And once fate reduces her with Dwight, a pleasant and polite person. Caroline, in the hope that he will bring stability to their life and will help to raise Toby, marries him. But contrary to her expectations, a harsh and quick -tempered person enters the house. With the new "father of the family", despot and tyrant, their life turns into a continuous nightmare.
