1623. In a small Danish community, demonstration processes over witches are put on stream. Women accused of witchcraft are burned at the stake. The processes are led by Rev. Absolon Pederssen. The harsh will of the pastor just once failed - when he spared and saved from the fire the mother of his second wife, young Anna Pederetter. Now the pastor is blackmailing the Herlof sentenced to the death of Marta - if he does not save her, she threatens to give out the secret of Absolon.
