The movie is based on real events. Actions unfold during the Japanese-Chinese War. The protagonist, American Romban John, goes to the Catholic Church in Nanjing to prepare the priest for the funeral. Upon arrival, he turns out to be the only man among the students of the monastery and prostitutes from a neighboring brothel in the epicenter of hostilities. Once in this position, he poses as a priest and tries to save both groups from the horrors of the invasion of the Japanese army.
