The protagonist of the story is a Jay Si treasure hunter working around the world. The famous antique invites him to find six rare figurines in the form of animal heads. At one time, these bronze sculptures were included in a set of 12 items personifying the signs of the zodiac. The figures decorated the fountain of the legendary summer palace on the outskirts of Beijing. In 1860, the majestic structure was looted and destroyed by the Anglo-French troops at the end of the second opium war, and the figurines were irrevocably lost.
