1546. Spain. Having received the news of the death of his sister Elizabeth, Francis Barnard goes to show her condolences to her husband, aristocrat Nicholas Medina. But Francis decides to linger in his castle, not receiving intelligible explanations of the reasons why Elizabeth died. But Medina, who in childhood witnessed how his father, a participant in the Spanish Inquisition, tortured his mother and uncle to death, himself is on the verge of mental disorder, believing that he buried Elizabeth when she was still alive.
