The action takes place in England at the beginning of the XX century. History talks about three families representing three different classes. Wilcoks - rich capitalists, represent a class that replaces the old aristocracy. Sisters Schlegel represent the enlightened bourgeoisie. Basters belong to the bottom of the middle class. The film, by showing the transition of the House `Howard Canda` from one owner to another answers the question `who will inherit England?`.
