The tragedy of a loner, who turned out to be superfluous in the society of the `universal prosperity` of the era of the economic miracle. Hans EPP spent several years away from his homeland in a foreign legion, and now he returned back. `It would be better not to return!` - Mother hisses viciously, meeting her son on the threshold of the house. And Hans leaves, gets up to work in the police, acquires a family, then becomes a seller of vegetables in a traveling shop. He does not love his wife, she pays him the same. Hans beloved is too proud to connect life with a street merchant. One of the skirmishes with his wife ends with a heavy heart attack. Disappointed in life, the hero decides to suicide. Gradually, but persistently, each participant in the action pushes him to this decision. And only sister Anna is trying to provide him with moral support, but cannot prevent his fatal death.
