Paris. The end of the XIX century. The young artist Henri Toulouse-Lottrek spends all days in a “evil place”-a cafe “Moulin Rouge”, drawing girls dancing Kankan. But, despite the wealth and belonging to the old count of the Count, Henry is deeply unhappy. He is a cripple, and only in the arms of a street prostitute Marie forgets about it. But soon Henry understands that Marie is only interested in his money. Trying to alleviate his grief, the Toulouse-Lortrak draws a series of posters for the cafe. The next morning, he wakes up famous, and the “moulins of the Rouge” forever enter in history ...
