The story of friendship, betrayal, a feeling of guilt and sins of fathers who fall on children. The main characters are Amir and Hassan, two boys living side by side from birth. But one is the son of an aristocrat, and the other is his servant. Place and time: Kabul before and after the war, the invasion of Soviet troops and the Taliban authorities. For 12 years, Amir and Hassan were inseparable, but once during this time Amir called Hassan his friend, and he was ready to give his life for the owner. Competitions for launching air snakes - the favorite fun of Kabul boys - becomes not only a point of no return, after which everything changes in the life of Amir and Hassan. Snake flights are also a metaphor for the fate of these boys, carried away by winds in different directions of the world.
