The American Friend
Der amerikanische Freund
Yonathan Zimmerman, an inconspicuously sick owner of a small baguette workshop in Hamburg, barely makes ends meet. At the auction, his paths intersect with an American in Stetson. This is a swindler Tom Ripley, who makes a living of fake works of art, but does not understand the purpose of his existence and sliding on the verge of depression. The paths of two men tired of life are strangely intersected, and a semblance of friendship arises between them. Ripley draws his new acquaintance into the activities of an international criminal cartel, and subsequent action-packed events, despite her slipping absurdity, temporarily give their gleamed life a kind of meaning.
