Francois Pignon, a modest employee of a factory producing contraceptives, is always shy, tries to be invisible, and for this reason he suffers a bunch of inconvenience, but he is ready to endure them all his life, just not to cause inconvenience to others. Once he hears the conversation of his colleagues, from whom he learns about his upcoming dismissal. Francois desperately goes to the balcony to rush down, but his intentions suppressed by the intervened neighbor. Upon learning of the cause of Pignon’s suffering, the neighbor sends a letter with a fake photograph to the factory: Francois is captured in a bar for homosexuals. The rumor about the non-traditional orientation of Pignon instantly flies around the enterprise, and the director understands that Francois cannot dismiss, because then he, directors, will be accused of discrimination against sex minorities.
