The action in the picture unfolds in the American south during the dry law and the great depression. The plot center is the Bondurant family, three brothers, Jack, Forrest and Howard, who are engaged in business, buttlery prohibited at that time. The optimistic Jack, the youngest of the brothers, hopes with the help of a proprietary manner to make money and impress his girlfriend Berta.
