Norman Tayer and his wife Ethel every year spend their summer holidays in the house on the golden lake. This time their daughter Chelsea comes to them with his friend Bill Ray and his 13-year-old son Billy. Chelsea asks her parents to leave the boy for a month with them while she and Bill are going to Europe. Norman (albeit with some reluctance) and Ethel agree. The stretched relations of the father and daughters are softened by the friendship of Norman and Billy.
