The plot of the film is based on the novel by Jean-Paul Franceens. In a deserted place, where the railway connects the city with the south, the switchman lives on its own. He has everything for an unpretentious life: work, a small kindergarten, a game with the mechanisms of his own invention, visitors - a postman, a driver and his assistant. But at the beginning of winter, harmony is destroyed by the appearance of a woman from the city, which goes to the station by mistake. Due to circumstances, she is forced to stay here for a whole year. The woman is acting amazing nature and changes in the seasons ... And the presence of a woman - the presence of a woman ... Events begin to flow in a different direction and gain a tragic character.
