Circus monkeys scream heartily in their cages, and outside people die and kill each other. This is another circus - the Spanish Civil War. Against his will, the red clown is called into the ranks of the people`s militia and takes part in the bloody massacre. He goes into battle against soldiers of the National Guard, armed with a machete and dressed in a joke outfit. Many years later, during the time of the dictator Franco, Javier, the son of that red clown, finds the work of a white (sad) clown in a circus inhabited by amazing characters. Now he is friends with a man-gun nucleus and a grumpy couple of dog training, and in the arena becomes a partner of the red clown Sergio. The heart of this story is a confusing love triangle in which Javier and Sergio, heated by passion and hatred of each other, try to win the love of the most beautiful woman circus. Each of them is ready to accept death, but not defeat in the battle for the fatal beauty.
