Kaspar Laynen has to investigate the confusing case of an unremarkable mechanic, Italian Fabrizio Collini, who at first glance killed German businessman Hans Mayer without any motives, after which he surrendered to the police. The state of things is complicated not only by the silence of Collini and a more experienced lawyer claiming the post of protagonist, but also by his personal communion to the matter: the granddaughter of the victim Johanna was his youthful love. However, Lainen accidentally manages to find a clue, thanks to which he understands that he was faced with the largest judicial scandal of Germany.
