Nelly Lenz is a victim of the Holocaust, who managed to survive in a concentration camp. She is injured, her face is greatly crippled. An employee of the Jewish agency Lena Winter helps Nelly get to Berlin, where she had a plastic surgery. Having recovered after the operation, Nelly begins to look for his husband Johanns. When she finally finds him, Johannes does not recognize his wife, whom he considered the deceased. Nevertheless, he admits that this woman unfamiliar to him looks like his `late` wife. And then Johannes makes Nelli’s business proposal - she will have to portray his wife in order to get the condition she got from the family. Nelly agrees.
