In the XIX century, in Yorkshire, the rich orphan Anne Lister lives with aunt and uncle, seeking to marry her, not knowing that she is a lesbian who makes the recordings of her thoughts and deeds in an encoded diary. When her lover Mariana Belokomb concludes a fictitious marriage with the rich old Charles Lawton, she feels devoted and, although Mariana visits her relationship does not go anywhere. The old love Tib helps her, she tries to cause jealousy of Miss Brown, but nothing comes of it.
