Lyle Jensen is subject to sudden and cruel outbursts of anger. After one of these outbreaks, during which he seriously crippled his classmate, he was sent for treatment to the youth department of the Northwood psychiatric hospital. There are also other teenagers with many serious problems. Lyle has a different relationship with patients and staff-with someone friendly and human, with someone not so human.
