Escape from Sobibor
Escape from Sobibor
Sobibor is the Nazi concentration camp on the territory of Poland, one of the dozens of Nazi death camps built specifically for the destruction of Jews from the countries conquered by the Germans. He was closed by personal order of the SS Himmler after the worship of the prisoners in the history of the death camps, which decided to resist the Nazi `order`, occurred in it. The main plan and organization of the uprising was taken by the Soviet prisoner of war-Lieutenant Pechersky, who arrived in Sobibor along with the group of the Jews. According to Pechersky’s plan, the prisoners were to secretly, one by one, the SS personnel of the camp, and then seized the weapons in the camp’s warehouse, kill the guards. The plan was only partially successful - the rebels were able to kill some of the SS people from the camp staff, but it was not possible to take possession of the weapon warehouse. The guard opened fire on prisoners and they were forced to break through the camp through minefields. They managed to mix the guard and go into the forest. A significant part of the prisoners did not try to run. After the escape, Pechersky headed the partisan detachment and fought until the arrival of the Red Army. After the war, he was a witness at the process over Ukrainian collaborators-former guards of Sobibor.
