The action takes place in the British town of Wolvergempton, in 1957. Nigel Slater, a nine -year -old boy, loves his mother, who is a hopeless cook. Her best dish is toast, while the boy has a large culinary talent. When his mother dies, Nigel remains with his father, with whom he never really got along. But things get even worse when the father hires a cleaning lady Joen Potter. Nigel begins to be afraid that she seeks to become a new Mrs. Slater. However, Jowen is an excellent brew, but this only creates competition to Nigel, who is the only boy in the culinary class of his secondary school. Then he begins to compete with Jowen to find the path to his father`s heart.
